Blue skies, sunshine, snowcapped mountains...couldn't have asked for more out of my first week in Alaska. I hear it's not always like this :) I'll take it while I can! I'm loving it!
I arrived in Cooper Landing on May 5th, after a 9 day trip from Yellowstone, riding with friends Michelle and Jamie, including a detour through Seattle and a ferry ride from Prince Rupert, BC to Haines, AK. It was a great trip, fair weather, and tons of wildlife! Mountain Goats, Dall Sheep, Caribou, Black Bear, Humpback Whales, Dall Porpoises, Sea Lions, Eagles and Eagles and Eagles, Ptarmigans, River Otters, Muskrat, 1 dead Porcupine :( You name it we saw it!
As we came into the Kenai Penninsula, the lakes were still frozen over, however the snow line had already retreated a few hundred feet up the mountains, so it's pretty easy to get around. Already the lakes have started to thaw out and now I'm just waiting for it to green up around here! The trees are starting to bud in Anchorage, so I'm sure it won't be long! Excited to be here for the changing of the seasons, and can't wait for spring budding, wildflower frenzy, and fall colors, although it's all going to go by too fast!
